Richard DeFalco Obituary

Richard J. DeFalco, age 76, of Plymouth, MA, passed away on March 14, 2024, at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham, MA. He was born on April 28, 1947, in New Haven, CT, the son of the late Salvatore and Marie (Astorino) DeFalco who resided in Hamden, CT. Richard graduated from Hamden High School and from the University of Connecticut. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees in Political Science and Business Administration. In addition, he earned his credentials in education and education administration.

Richard taught high school Business and U.S. History and was also Department Chair in Meriden, CT before his retirement in 2007. He had a passion for teaching and cared immensely for all his students.

In his free time, Richard enjoyed practicing tai chi, walking, gardening, watching his favorite sports teams, and most of all, spending quality time with his family and friends. He loved to travel and went on family vacations to Cape Cod, Maine, Italy, Bermuda, and cruises to the Caribbean Islands.

He is survived by his niece, Sarah Horowitz, her husband, Benjamin Martin, and great nephew, Ezra Horowitz; his partner, Janis Ruchala and her daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Michael Nickolini; and many other relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his mother Marie (Astorino) DeFalco; Father Salvatore DeFalco; and sister Linda (DeFalco) Horowitz.

Richard will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul with a great sense of humor. He was a loving and caring individual who was always supportive of those around him.

At the request of the family, private graveside services will be held at All Saints Cemetery on Thursday March 21 st. Floral arrangements, if desired, may be sent directly to the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the UConn Foundation General Scholarships Fund to honor Richard and his love of teaching.
